  I was hired by an attorney representing several families of victims of 9/11 applying to the Victims Compensation Fund. The assignment was challenging on several levels: The attorney wasn’t able to supply much direction, and there was a lot of work involved in assessing the career trajectories of each individual victim and developing 10 to 15 year earning projections and employee benefit loss calculations.
  It was important to do the absolute best for each family. I brought Rosemarie in to consult on this assignment because of her experience — Human Resources at Goldman Sachs, and Board level work at BlackRock, Inc. — Her work is impeccable, and her corporate financial experience is first-rate. She has a particular understanding of the most complicated aspects of HR, and how to put together complex financial, compensation packages in different industries. With Rosemarie’s overall HR, compensation and employee benefits expertise, coupled with my qualitative/storytelling skills, we were able to effectively assess and project the total loss of income for each victim’s family.   Rosemarie was hired by USPowerGen, an energy company acquired by a group of investment bankers. She brought me in to manage the recruitment aspect of this acquisition. A number of core infrastructure supervisors and employees were urgently needed. The newly formed company, USPowerGen, consisted of assets from a larger company.
  The challenge was to build a new company from an existing one, a brand new company with a completely new organizational structure built from scratch, on an extremely tight timeline driven by an ownership transfer date. This is exactly what Rosemarie is uniquely equipped to do: Take a complicated issue, infer direction from a management team with a split focus, in a zero-infrastructure environment — and through skill, determination and commitment create a fully functioning organization from the bottom up. Her key assets are the ability to listen and to understand very complicated issues; and to effectively dissect the pieces and produce effective results. Rosemarie was able to create a new organizational structure; design compensation and pay structures and processes; align 500-plus pre-existing, union and non-unionized employees on newly created employee benefits structure; and oversee the recruitment of key staff. This was all accomplished — from nothing to fully functioning organization — in a 100-day timeframe.   I’ve worked with Rosemarie for over ten years now. She was my client when she was the Managing Director of Human Resources at BlackRock Inc. Since then we’ve collaborated on a number of consulting assignments. She has a very good sense of what a well-functioning organization looks like, and has the ability to discern where there are opportunities, not just where problems are.
